2009-2010: In August 2009, Meyjes began work as Department Chair of Inclusive Education and the Associate Professor of Linguistics at Kennesaw State University. The opportunity uniquely combines aspects of education with TESOL, a program that develops professional expertise in English language teaching and learning for speakers of other languages worldwide. One of Meyjes' long term goals is to add global education and cross cultural understanding to the list of department specialties. Also in the department, Meyjes will work to emphasize similarities and highlight the differences of students with disabilities, addressing issues that arise from preschool through transition to postsecondary or employment. This program prepares teachers to meet the educational needs of students with disabilities in P-12 educational settings.
Foreign Language Instruction
2007-2008: Solidaris provides foreign-language instruction in English and Dutch to select professionals:
a) under a 2007 subcontract with LLE Language Services (which contracts with the US Department of State) and
b) a 2007-2008 primary contract with Dr. Almut, Head of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (1023 15th Street, NW).
Translators of Non-dominant Languages
2005-2006: Solidaris recruited linguists for the translation of security-sensitive material in minority languages (speakers from developing, Islamic, or otherwise non-traditional countries) for a commercial client MVM Security (Vienna, Virginia) contracted by the US Department of Justice.
Ethnolinguistic Diversity
2005: Dr. Meyjes lectured on ethnolinguistic diversity at a summer seminar in Bulgarian Language and Culture seminar at the University of Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
Robert Hayden poet-laureate: A Retrospective
2004: Solidaris represented a number of organizations in the Washington DC area to celebrate and rediscover the art and spirit of two-time US Poet Laureate Robert Hayden (1913-1980), whose artistry and "passionate Universalism" uniquely transcends racial and cultural divides, rendering his soul-stirring poetry of abiding relevance to intercultural politics today. Solidaris coordinated an address by Dr. Meyjes about Hayden's life, a Reception, various poetry readings and a school essay contest in the City of Falls Church, Virginia, where Hayden resided while in the area.
A Celebration of Poetry in Honor of Robert Hayden
2005: Along with a local Arts organization, Solidaris organized a Poetry Jam in honor of the memory of US Poet Laureate Robert Hayden (1913-1980) during African-American History month in Falls Church, Virginia.
English Teaching in Prison
2003-2004:The United States Federal Bureau of Prisons made a single award for the provision of English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructional Services for the Federal Correctional Institution located in Dublin, California. The contract consists of a 12-month base period and four 12-month option periods for renewal.
