Visiting Professorship
2007-2008: During the 2007-2008 academic year, Greg Meyjes serves as Visiting Professor at Middle Tennessee State University. His temporary appointment is focused on Intercultural Education and Internationalization. Based in the Department of Elementary & Special Education, he also works with the School of Mass Communication and assists with MTSU's new Ph.D. in Literacy.
Keynote Address
2007: In July 2007, Dr. Meyjes presented a keynote address on cultural accommodation
and the diversity professional at the 7th International Conference on Diversity
in Organisations, Communities, and Nations,
Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 3 - 6 July 2007.
Health and Community Building in Nigeria
2007: Dr. Meyjes traveled to Abuja, Nigeria, to conduct an institutional review and assist in strategic planning for the Center for the Right to Health (CRH). To build community health interventions that contribute to the reduction of tribal and religious tensions, Dr. Meyjes also met with representatives of organizations in neighboring states,including the Nasarawa State Governer’s office, the Interfaith Mediation Centre in Kaduna, the Faith Alive Foundation in Jos, and the Faith Action Gospel Services in Lafia.
Dr. Greg Meyjes appointed to Board of Center for the
Right to Health
2007: The non-profit Center for the Right to Health (CRH),
with offices in Lagos, Abuja, and Imo State, Nigeria (www.crhonline.org)
has appointed Solidaris Founder Dr. Meyjes to its Board of Directors. CRH
is dedicated to research, training, advocacy, and service for realizing public
health in Nigeria, especially for vulnerable groups such as people living
with HIV/AIDS, women, youth, and children.
The Roma in Bulgaria
2006: European Community funds for to render "technical assistance to the implementation of project activities and institutional set-up for disadvantaged ethnic minorities issues with a special focus on Roma" in 2007-2008 (pending.)
2005: Solidaris established
essential grassroots contacts with community-based organizations serving
Roma (Gypsy) populations in Bulgaria, as a preliminary step to proposing
and carrying out social inclusion projects
involving the Roma.
Ethnolinguistic Diversity
2005: Dr. Meyjes lectured on ethnolinguistic diversity at a summer seminar in Bulgarian Language and Culture seminar at the University of Plovdiv in Bulgaria.
Corporate Culture
2005-2006: Solidaris was contacted by SARV Business Consultancy & Training, a management consulting firm in the Netherlands, about assisting a multinational client with creating a corporate culture that favors the attraction and retention of highly trained employees from developing countries (exploration phase).
Racial Violence in Europe
2006: Solidaris enters into contact with a high-level Bulgarian official and a member of the European Parliament, to address the growing problem of racial violence in that country, at the eve of its January 2007 accession to the European Union.
Robert Hayden poet-laureate: A Retrospective
Solidaris represented a number of organizations in the Washington DC area to celebrate and rediscover the art and spirit of two-time US Poet Laureate Robert Hayden (1913-1980), whose artistry and "passionate Universalism" uniquely transcends racial and cultural divides, rendering his soul-stirring poetry of abiding relevance to intercultural politics today. Solidaris coordinated an address by Dr. Meyjes about Hayden's life, a Reception, various poetry readings and a school essay contest in the City of Falls Church, Virginia, where Hayden resided while in the area.
A Celebration of Poetry in Honor of Robert Hayden
2005: Along with a local Arts organization, Solidaris coordinated a Poetry Jam in honor of the memory of US Poet Laureate Robert Hayden (1913-1980) during African-American History month in Falls Church, Virginia.
